Abstract

Following the success of the 2014 BCS(Bedford Challenge), a new school competition is launched to close on 22 May 2015. The two sections of the competition are:

  • Year 7: Use Scratch to illustrate the hardware and software components that make up computer systems, how they communicate with one another/ other systems

  • Year 8: Use Alice to produce a game which supports student learning in another curriculum subject. Use a blogger to reflect on highs and lows of the project as it develops

The competition is open to all schools in the four local education authorities and independent schools in the Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire areas.

The half day meeting invites computing leads and teachers to learn about competition, visit the Museum and network with others on the current stage of Computing Curriculum implementation. They shall also be introduced to BCS and CAS and future network and support opportunities.

A tour of the National Museum of Computing is included.

Free to attend for BCS members and Non-members. Maximum 40 delegates, preference will be given to school computing leads and teachers from the four local education authorities and independent schools in the Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire areas.
