Abstract

This is a joint Bedford BCS, RAeS and IET meeting

The Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements has been operational since 2004 and operates a BAe-146-301 large atmospheric research aircraft from Cranfield, UK. The lecture gives an overview on the aircraft and its limits of operation, the instrumentation packages deployed, their operation and the modular nature of the overall science payload as well as the provision of data to the science community. The relevance of that data and how it can be used is investigated by examining three recent science case studies from the South Equatorial Pacific, the Eyjafjallajökull volcano and the Elgin rig gas leak
